Triathlon

Stratford-upon-Avon A.C. Tri Section is a British Triathlon Federation (BTF) registered club and welcomes triathletes and duathletes of all ages and abilities who wish to train and compete.

The aims of the Tri Section are

  • to introduce multi-sport participation to Stratford-upon-Avon A.C. members and the wider community,
  • to offer a Triathlon 2010 Grand Prix of eight, local races to galvanise the team ethos and to give those new to the sport encouragement,
  • to offer triathlon-specific coached sessions to members who may wish to either ‘try a tri’ or aim for international selection and finally
  • to be safe and have fun!

We enter teams in the BTF National Club Relay Championships at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham

We organise a Triathlon Grand Prix that includes 8 races, with 5 to count.

Our inaugural Shipston Aquathlon will take place on Saturday 17th September 2011 at Shipston Leisure Centre and High School. The entry form can be downloaded from the link on the left.

Bike Coaching

Sunday morning bike session departing from the Sports Club at 9.00am.

This will just be a chance to practice your group riding skills with a steady/recovery ride at 15-17 mph for 1-4 hours and build up some bike stamina at the same time. To cater for as many standards and requirements as possible:

  • For those new to group riding and longer rides, why not plan to  cycle with us for an hour or so and then turn back and make your own way home in singles or pairs.
  • For those who want to build up their stamina or have a quality active recovery session, stay with the group for the whole ride. I’ll start off with a 30-40 mile route and then build up over the first few weeks to 50-60 miles. Depending on how people feel, we may have a café stop as well, especially on the longer routes.
  • For the real hard core and those doing Ironman training how about a reverse brick session, with a run from 8.00am with Tony J’s group and then join us for the bike session.

The most important thing to realise is that this is not a hard ride. You won’t be dropped and we’ll slow down after hills and descents to regroup. It’s going to be fun and a chance to get some mileage in without the boredom of cycling on your own.

But, to be fair to the whole group, please be sure you are comfortable riding in a group and that you can ride comfortably for at least an hour at 15-17 mph. Otherwise, as I’m sure you will appreciate, everyone gets frustrated at having to wait at every junction and the group starts to break up.
